Reflection Time….

This semester has been really hectic for me. If i had it to do all over again, first I wouldn’t have taken on so much. I produced our student show, I’m directing a play for the 10 Minute Play Festival tomorrow and Wednesday, and I am the Business Manager for Alpha Psi Omega, our theatre honor fraternity.

But when it comes to social media, I have learned some really good sites that I didn’t know existed. For example, LinkdIn is a really great site that I can use once I graduate.

And since I am graduating this semester, I will be able to use all of these tools to my advantage.

But the one thing that I have learned the most, and this has nothing to do with social media, is not to overbook myself. I find that if I do, I don’t do as good a job on everything. If I have ten things to do, I will do each of them about the same which means I have to stretch myself pretty thin.

I don’t think I want to work for a corporation as a PR because I want to do something with entertainment. But I know that it is a small world and the more connections I have the better off I am and the best way to get and keep connections is to communicate through social media. I will be more conscious of what I put on my personal sites so that I can attract the right people. It has helped me realize that no matter what you do, pretty much anybody can see it if they put their mind to it. So I have to go out there and give it my all and never look back!

And that’s exactly what I’m going to do!!!

Major League PR

I am a baseball fan. Not as much as my mom and not as much of a fan of baseball as I am of football, but I still like baseball. But my favorite part about baseball is actually going. It’s kind of a bonding experience.

If I were on the public relations team for one of the teams, I would have all sorts of special offerings. One day, I might actually have a discount for fathers and sons and another for fathers and daughters. Something like if you’re a father and you bring your son, your son can get in for half off or even free! That could be really good around Father’s Day. I could even give those specials to mothers and sons/daughters for Mother’s Day. I don’t think that it would be as popular for mothers but I wouldn’t want to leave them out just because the majority doesn’t go.

This could actually work for both a great team and a horrible team. Because you’re still going to get that experience of hotdogs and bonding.

I could also offer something for boys or girls whose birthday it is: Something like meet the team after the game if it’s your birthday! I know that they will show their names on the screen if it’s their birthday, but if they could actually meet the team on the field after the game. I think that would be great. There would be a lot of little boys and girls but it’s just a thought.

But if my team was a flop and everyone knew it, I would probably get them to come by offering discounts. I would still offer the Father’s Day/Mother’s Day specials as I said before. But to get someone to come cheer for a baseball team that they know is going to fail? That’s a tough one. But I would have to get people pumped up. I wouldn’t really advertise the team as much as the experience. The fact that you can be outside and watch a baseball game. I would probably appeal more to people who don’t really have a favorite baseball team. That way, they would want to go without being mad about the amount of losses that we had. I would talk about how it’s a great American past-time and that everyone needs to go to a baseball game. I would make prices cheaper than for a team that actually has a good reputation. People don’t want to pay full price if they know they are going to lose. That’s just unfair. So I would just lower the prices a bit. But I would definitely play more to the experience than to the actual team.

So I think that if I were working for baseball team as a PR, I would offer lots of discounts and appeal to a wide variety of people from baseball fans to kids to non-baseball fans. Everyone needs to go to at least one ballgame. That’s like never having seen the Grand Canyon. DO IT!

Confession…I have yet to see the Grand Canyon… :’(

And Your Desired Destination Is…

Where would I want to go if I could go anywhere?!?

This is tough because I LOVE England. I went there when I was 20 and have wanted to return ever since!! Seriously!! But I’ve already been. But I love it! Mostly because of the THEATRE!!!

(It really is magical. Like being transported back in time…)

But enough of reminiscing…

I guess if I had to choose a place that I have never been….

The Gamboa Rainforest Resort in Gamboa, Panama! Now, I am cheating because I have actually been to Panama and I have been to this resort. But this resort was just a resting spot for our excursion. I want to actually stay here. The price for a room at the Rainforest Resort.

Now, here is why I cannot go there as of right now.

The rates are as follows:

One night stay for:

A Superior Garden Room View Suite: $175
A Deluxe River View Room: $195
A Junior Suite With A Loft: $350
A One Bedroom Suite: $475

So……..I would LOVE to stay thee but I don’t think I can afford it. HAHAHAHA!! Maybe when I marry some rich guy! HA!

Social Media and the Generation Gap

It’s so weird thinking that we didn’t used to have social media. I mean, I remember the time perfectly when we didn’t, but the thought of not having it now is just baffling. I’ve had a few friends that have deactivated their Facebook accounts and I just do’t understand it!! But I joined the social media train late and I’m so attached to it!

My point is this: If someone who owns any kind of business does not use social media, they are completely missing out! They aren’t just out of the loop, they’re completely out of the universe. Social media is the universe now. And if you aren’t in the universe, you are out of it. Let me explain: We get all of our information from social media. If there is a new product or service out there, we are going to learn about it from some sort of social media outlet. So to say that you don’t have a Facebook or Twitter account just because you don’t understand it won’t cut it anymore! You have to know how to use these things to get ahead in any business anymore! It’s depressing. Believe me. I know. But it’s just a fact of life.

I really don’t know of any businesses that don’t implement social media in some way, shape, or form. It’s simply something that you have to learn to do! I mean, look at it this way: If you can’t read or write, what are you going to do? Work at fast food restaurants the rest of your life. (No offense to people who are 60+ working at fast food restaurants but I want to do more with  my life.) The same goes for social media. If you are a business that does not understand social media, the businesses that do are going to leave you in the dust! It’s just going to happen.

So if I actually had to explain to someone who doesn’t use social media why they should use social media, I would say: “you can’t win the race if you don’t have any gas!” Okay, I wouldn’t say that. But I would tell them that it’s a great investment of your time. It costs absolutely nothing to set up and it’s relatively easy to maintain. So get out there and start networking! You’ll be glad you did!!

Disclaimer: for those of you that do not use social media sites, you probably won’t read this, so disregard that last statement. ^_^ Thanks and have a great day!!!!

THE MUPPET BABIES!!!

CAN I EVEN STRESS TO YOU HOW AWESOME THIS SHOW IS?!!?! No…

No, I cannot.

Well, let me start out by saying that the topic of the week was “Which TV show would you bring back from your childhood?” I thought a long time on this one. I know that I probably wouldn’t like The Muppet Babies anymore, but that used to be my s***! Honestly! I don’t think you get the gravity of the situation. I watched this show ALL THE TIME!! There was never a day that I didn’t watch this show! My mom would pick me up from school and I’d rush out of the car and into the house and the TV was already turned to Cartoon Network because my mom KNEW that if it wasn’t, I’d freak out. I saw every episode of this show. I don’t know why I remember it so much other than the fact that it was something to look forward to when I was a kid. They had so many fun adventures and I just really enjoyed them. I realize that I am too excited about this, but come on!! Doesn’t everyone want to rekindle their childhood days when there was nap-time (WHY?!) and snack-time (DELICIOUS!) and those TV shows that you just couldn’t wait to see?

So, to reiterate: I kind of  LOVE this show and I probably WOULD watch it again just to rekindle a bit of my childhood. ^_^
